One Cocktail/2 Ways

One Cocktail/2 Ways

Exemplifying a perfect balance of tradition and trend, the Sazerac isn't merely a cocktail; it's a sip of history that transcends eras.

Ingredients

  1. 2 oz Hennessy VS Cognac (original) Hennessy VS Cognac
  2. OR 2oz Rye Whiskey (modern) rye whiskey
  3. 1 sugar cube
  4. 2 dashes Peychaud's Bitters
  5. Splash of absinthe
  6. Lemon peel for garnish

How to make

  1. Rinse a chilled rocks glass with absinthe then discard the excess.
  2. In a mixing glass, muddle the sugar cube, water, and Peychaud’s.
  3. Add the whiskey or cognac (or both!) to the mixing glass and fill with ice.
  4. Stir well until the mixture is thoroughly chilled.
  5. Strain the mixture from the mixing glass into the prepared old-fashioned glass.
  6. Twist a piece of lemon peel over the glass to release the oils, rub it around the rim of the glass, then drop it in as a garnish.
